Homemade Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki Sauce in a bowl surrounded by garlic and cucumber

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)

  • 1 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Start by grating the cucumber. Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out as much moisture as possible.

  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated and drained cucumber, minced garlic, chopped dill, and optional mint.

  3. Add the extra-virgin olive oil and lemon juice to the mixture. Stir until everything is well combined.

  4. Season your tzatziki sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Remember, you can always add more salt, so start with a little and taste before adding more.

  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 1 hour before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together.
